Description
Since World War II, military uniforms have been adapted to serve in every area of the world, from the freezing wastes of Norway and Canada to the baking deserts of North Africa and the Middle East, and the humid jungle heat of Vietnam and Malaysia. Uniforms have been designed to allow the soldier to function effectively whatever the conditions. They are intended to help keep his body temperature constant, and make him difficult to detect, yet remain both practical and comfortable to wear. As clothing and material technology have developed, so the world's regular armies, and particularly special forces units, have updated their uniforms to make use of the best designs and fabrics available. At the same time, however, guerrilla forces have often been forced to use whatever equipment they have been able to capture or steal, so that no two soldiers look the same.
Description
Organised by country or region, and covering every corner of the world, Modern Military Uniforms illustrates the uniforms of regular and irregular forces engaged in combat since 1945, as well as the military attire of soldiers involved in the Cold War. Each uniform featured in the book is illustrated by means of a superb full-color artwork, with accompanying text describing what the figure is wearing and why, the typical weapons and other equipment he would have carried, and where appropriate, a note on the conflict that he was involved in.
Description
In addition, every entry in Modern Military Uniforms has a specifications box which gives the date, unit, rank, theater and, where possible, exact location of the uniform illustrated. As well as military uniforms, the book includes the attire and equipment of specialist counter-terrorist and paramilitary hostage-rescue units. At the end of the book, a brief section covers some of the major webbing types that have seen service since World War II, with clear, concise illustrations and text detailing each type's development and history.
