Description
John Muir first saw Alaska only twelve years after it was purchased from Russia by the United States. The year was 1879. Four more times he was drawn back to this northern land of glaciers. But it was his first impressions of the far north, his first adventures amid the rivers of ice, the time of his discovery of Glacier Bay and the largest of Alaska's tidal glaciers, now named in his honor, that returned most vividly to his mind when he set down the chapters of this book.
